Five schools in Pallars Sobirà held a tournament this Thursday to promote the practice and preservation of 'bitlles pallareses', a traditional game revived in the Valls d'Àneu area.

The initiative, which brought together 140 students from 5th grade and 1st year of secondary school, aims to integrate this sport into the physical education curriculum. The project involved the Escola Àngel Serafí Casanovas in Sort, the ZER Alt Pallars Sobirà in Llavorsí, the Escola La Closa and INS Morelló in Esterri d'Àneu, and the INS Hug Roger II in Sort.
According to project sources, recovering this game is essential for preserving the region's cultural heritage. The process required specific training for physical education teachers, many of whom were unfamiliar with the mechanics of this sport before implementing it in classrooms.

"The practice of traditional games is an important part of the cultural heritage of the Pallars region."

the project management
Unlike the Catalan bowling game, which uses six pins and aims to keep one standing, the Pallars version uses nine pins and a 'truc', a round wooden ball. The main goal is to knock down as many pins as possible, a dynamic that students have praised for its collaborative and team-oriented nature.
