The Arnau de Vilanova Hospital in Lleida and the Pallars Regional Hospital in Tremp are set to launch a medical drone transport service this summer.

This initiative by the Generalitat of Catalonia aims to support rural and mountain healthcare. The drones will carry blood bags, medicines, and biological samples, ensuring faster delivery and better preservation of sensitive materials.
Travel time will be significantly reduced from 1 hour and 15 minutes by car to approximately 40 minutes by air. This method also offers a sustainable alternative, as electric drones produce nearly zero CO2 emissions compared to traditional vehicles.
Authorities have identified ten potential zones for hospital drone routes. Future plans include expanding the network to connect Tremp with other Pyrenean towns such as Sort and Vielha.
