These workshops, which recently included about fifty first and second-grade students from the Àngel Serafí i Casanovas School, aim to introduce young people to the practice of fishing. According to the organizers, the activity not only focuses on the sport but also on environmental education, teaching about the native trout varieties of the Noguera Pallaresa and the importance of catch-and-release fishing.
“"In these workshops, we teach what we fish, what varieties of trout can be found in the Noguera Pallaresa, how to promote catch-and-release and sustainable fishing, and how to keep the river clean by avoiding spills."
A key aspect of the workshops is raising awareness about the fight against invasive species, which pose a significant threat to native fish. Furthermore, emphasis is placed on the importance of maintaining the river in good condition to ensure trout reproduction, highlighting fishing's role as an activity deeply rooted in the region before the rise of adventure sports.
The Societat de Pesca Sort-Pirineus not only organizes activities for schoolchildren but also offers training for adults and families, with the aim of promoting fishing as a sport and recreational activity that contributes to environmental maintenance. These initiatives extend to various locations in Lleida, beyond the capital of Pallars Sobirà.
Concurrently, the current hydrological situation in the area is characterized by high water levels in the Noguera Pallaresa, due to continuous snowmelt and recent rainfall. This circumstance has necessitated opening the Talarn or Sant Antoni reservoir, which is almost at its maximum capacity. The river, with a flow of nearly 90 m³/s as it passes through Collegats, has flooded the canoeing area of Sort, also affecting aquatic fauna. It is hoped that the high mountain fishing season, scheduled for May 9, can proceed normally.
