Former members of parliament from Pallars Sobirà have formally requested the Minister of Justice, Ramon Espadaler, to reinstate the Court of First Instance in Sort.

The court, originally established in 1834, was abolished by a 1965 decree during the Franco dictatorship. Since then, residents of the 15 municipalities in the region have been forced to travel to Tremp for all judicial matters.
Supporters of the petition argue that historical rights and the current social and economic vitality of Sort justify the return of the judicial seat to the county capital.
