A hiker was rescued in critical condition this Monday, March 16, after being buried by an avalanche in the Alt Àneu area, located in the Pallars Sobirà region.

The incident took place near Estany Gelat around 2:00 PM. Emergency services were alerted by the victim's companion, who was uninjured. Two Bombers de la Generalitat helicopters, including GRAE mountain rescue specialists, were deployed to the scene.
The operation, supported by Pompièrs d'Aran and SEM medical staff, concluded with the victim being stabilized and flown to Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona. Authorities had warned of a level 3 avalanche risk in the Pyrenees due to recent snow instability.
