Israeli armed forces intercepted a humanitarian flotilla near the island of Crete on Wednesday night, detaining 175 activists heading to the Gaza Strip with aid, including about twenty Catalans.

The operation took place more than a thousand kilometers from the Palestinian enclave, affecting 22 of the 58 vessels that were part of this second flotilla. Among those arrested are about twenty Catalans, including a resident of Arcalís, in Pallars Sobirà.

"If you are seeing this, it means we have been kidnapped by the Netanyahu Government in an act of piracy in international waters."

The Israeli government has announced that the expedition members are expected to be deported to a Greek beach. In Catalonia, ERC, Comuns, and the CUP called for the suspension of the Parliament plenary session due to the attack, but the proposal did not pass. However, an institutional declaration condemning the incident was approved. The president of the Government, Salvador Illa, described Israel's "intervention" as "unacceptable".
