The Lleida Provincial Council will allocate two million euros to upgrade the venues hosting the 2027 Whitewater Canoeing World Championships in the Pyrenean capitals of Sort and La Seu d'Urgell, as announced on Wednesday.

This investment, one million euros for each municipality, was confirmed during the constitution of the championships' organizing committee, held at the CAR in Sant Cugat del Vallès. The main objective is to ensure that the facilities in Sort and La Seu d'Urgell are prepared for the global event and for their future use, ensuring a lasting legacy.

"It is a great opportunity to project Catalan sport globally and revitalize the territory."

Berni Álvarez · Minister of Sports
The Minister of Sports, Berni Álvarez, highlighted that the event promotes the decentralization of major sporting events across Catalonia, emphasizing disciplines rooted in each area. This vision seeks to promote and highlight the specific disciplines that are native and established in each zone.

"It is not only about organizing a competition, but guaranteeing that the facilities are prepared for the future and continue to generate opportunities."

Òscar Martínez · Deputy for Public Health and Sports
The 2027 Whitewater World Championships will be divided into two phases. Sort will host the downhill and freestyle events from June 30 to July 4 at the Aigüerola regatta course on the Noguera Pallaresa River. La Seu d'Urgell will take over from September 7 to 12 with the slalom and kayak cross competitions at the Parc Olímpic del Segre.
