“"The entire section of residual networks will be replaced, a new drainage network and rainwater collectors will be executed, and the northern sidewalk of Pere Alsius street will be repaired. The presence of superficial tree roots has caused many areas of the sidewalk to shift, clearly hindering safe pedestrian movement."

The Banyoles City Council started works today to renew the residual and rainwater sewage system on Pere Alsius street, a crucial intervention to resolve sinkholes that have recently emerged.
The intervention, deemed essential, focuses on the stretch between Pintor Pigem street and Indústria promenade, where a broken collector has caused several sinkholes to appear. This project not only replaces the sanitation network but also includes the repair of the northern sidewalk.
Jordi Carretero, the Councilor for Public Safety Policies and Public Roads, highlighted the importance of the work. The reform of the northern sidewalk will be similar to the one carried out on the southern sidewalk in 2021, using soft, draining pavement in the tree pits to improve rainwater absorption and limit surface irregularities.
The works have a budget of 207,501.45 euros and an execution period of four months. In addition to replacing the 300mm concrete residual network, the implementation of a new drainage network and rainwater collectors is planned, including gullies for collecting surface water.
