The population of Priorat stood at 9,415 inhabitants on January 1, 2025, representing a slight decrease of five people compared to the previous year. The region is confirmed as the fourth least populated comarca in Catalonia, only behind Alta Ribagorça, Moianès, and Pallars Sobirà.
This slight decrease is the result of negative demographic components. Natural growth (births minus deaths) was -72 people, and the internal migratory balance (within Catalonia or Spain) was also negative, at -13 people.
The factor that prevented a more significant population loss was the migratory balance with foreign countries, which contributed a net 75 people. During 2024, 187 people arrived in the region and 112 departed.
Priorat is the first comarca in Catalonia with the fewest inhabitants in the 0 to 15 age bracket, representing only 11.3% of the population.
Priorat stands out as the second region with the highest percentage of population aged 65 or older (27%), only surpassed by Terra Alta. Furthermore, it is the first comarca in Catalonia with the fewest inhabitants in the 0 to 15 age bracket.
Regarding the municipalities, Falset, the capital, concentrates 2,892 inhabitants (+20). It is followed by Cornudella (1,014, -19) and Marçà (624, +25). Twenty municipalities in the region have fewer than 500 inhabitants, with El Lloar being the least populated with 100 residents.
