The Priorat region remains the fourth least populated in Catalonia, with 9,415 inhabitants as of January 1, 2025. This figure represents a loss of five people compared to the previous year, ranking second only to Terra Alta in terms of population loss.
This decline occurs despite a positive migratory balance with foreign countries of 75 people, which compensated for the negative natural growth (-72) and the negative internal migratory balance (-13). The total migratory balance was +62, but it was not enough to reverse the overall downward trend.
One of the most significant data points is the aging population. Priorat is the second region with the highest percentage of population aged 65 or older, as 27% of its inhabitants fall into this age bracket, only surpassed by Terra Alta. Furthermore, it is the first region in Catalonia with the fewest inhabitants in the 0 to 15 age group, which only represents 11.3% of the total.
By municipality, Falset, the capital, concentrates the majority of residents with 2,892 inhabitants (an increase of 20). Cornudella (1,014, -19) and Marçà (624, +25) complete the top three. It should be noted that twenty municipalities in the region have fewer than 500 inhabitants, with El Lloar being the least populated with 100 residents.
