The resolution of this Nuclear Transition Funds call, corresponding to the year 2025, aims to boost socio-economic development and energy transition in the territory. The funds, managed by ACCIÓ (the agency for business growth under the Department of Business and Labour), will be distributed across 48 municipalities affected by the closure of the Ascó and Vandellòs nuclear plants.
Beneficiary companies will invest, in aggregate, more than 143 million euros in high-impact industrial projects, technological innovation, or business growth. The regional distribution of the aid is: Baix Camp (27%), Baix Ebre (25%), Ribera d'Ebre (19%), Priorat (15%), Terra Alta (8%), Segrià (4%), and Garrigues (2%). The creation of 130 new jobs is anticipated.
“"It demonstrates the success of this initiative and the agility in managing key resources for the territory, which will act as an accelerator not only to alleviate the closure of the nuclear plants, but also to grow and modernize the productive fabric of the affected municipalities."
The subsidies will promote strategic change projects, talent acquisition, job creation (minimum of 3 new jobs), collaborative initiatives aligned with cluster challenges, and the promotion of value-added entrepreneurship. Technological innovation projects for the digital and green transformation of companies will also be financed.
The Nuclear Transition Fund is financed by a specific environmental tax in Catalonia. In the 2023-2024 period, this initiative already financed actions worth over 150 million euros, benefiting 1,500 companies and enabling the creation of 656 jobs.
