The Tivissa City Council and the Ribera d'Ebre County Council are facing criticism over the expansion of the Magrells landfill, a facility that could double its size despite environmental concerns.

The original project, established in 1994, was intended to last only ten years. However, the company Gestió i Recuperació de Terrenys SL has secured approval to expand the site to 294,483 square meters.

"The technical reports met the legal requirements for authorization and no public money was invested."

The site's management is back in the spotlight due to the Pujol Ferrusola family trial at the National Court. Investigations are looking into whether the private concession received political pressure during Oriol Pujol's tenure.
