The energy developer Ebergy has commissioned extensive environmental studies in Flix and la Fatarella to adapt the final design of the Gira pumped-storage hydroelectric plant.

The firm Biodiversity Node is conducting field research across 30,100 hectares to monitor bird populations and bats. This data is being used to adjust the placement of power lines and two massive 13-cubic-hectometer reservoirs to protect local biodiversity.

"With the information obtained from the analysis, mitigation measures can be proposed, such as changing the location of the infrastructure."

The study area includes several municipalities such as Ascó and Mequinensa. Experts use high-precision equipment to track species like the Bonelli's eagle. The plant is designed to reach a capacity of 1,500 MW, providing critical energy storage for the region.
