The Plaça de l’Arenal in Miravet became on Friday, June 26, the epicenter for defending the rights of the LGBTI+ collective in the region. The celebration, coinciding with International LGBTI+ Liberation Day on Sunday, June 28, consolidates Ribera Orgullosa as a county event and adds the significance of the territorial institutional act of the Generalitat Government in Terres de l’Ebre.
The day began in the afternoon with a good turnout of the public and authorities. Family activities were organized, facilitated by monitors from Ebre3, including traditional games, board games like Diversi+, Pride face-painting areas, and workshops focused on breaking gender stereotypes. The Space for entities and services hosted stands from the Xarxa SAI and the Consell Comarcal, book sales points, local artist showcases, and participation from associations like Espai Trans, OK Productions, and Bassa Mar. There was also a mural by the women's association of Miravet and a message fair from the riverside institutes.
The institutional opening featured the mayor of Miravet, Miguel Morales Gutiérrez, and the delegate of the Government in Terres de l’Ebre, Joan Castor Gonell Agramunt. The mayor emphasized the importance of coexistence and stated that in Miravet, “there is no room for hate, nor for discrimination.” After the flag raising by the Xarxa SAI, territorial director Mercè Guirao Vilàs read the manifesto together with the Councilor for Equality, Vanessa Serrano Molinero.
The Councilor for Equality and Feminisms of the Consell Comarcal, Rosa Maria Garcia Piñol, presented the 2026 Pride campaign, advocating for rural areas as an inclusive and safe space for the LGBTI+ collective. She stressed that Ribera d’Ebre aims to be a place where people stay and where rights are not questioned.
The day included a round table on the recovery of historical memory in Terres de l’Ebre, a theme that also inspired an exhibition from the Archive of trans and LGBTI+ memory. The political closing was delivered by the secretary of Equality of Rights and Non-discrimination of the Generalitat, who reaffirmed the Government's support for the decentralization of these public policies.
The celebration concluded with live music by Irene Porta, a communal dinner, and a musical bingo managed by the association Lo Pergi, consolidating the night of celebration and rural pride in the region.
