The application presented by the company Gestió i Recuperació de Terrenys SL seeks to increase the capacity and useful life of the controlled deposit for non-special waste in Tivissa. This modification includes the construction of new disposal cells and the “modernization” of valorization, water purification, and energy management systems.
The Department of Territory has submitted the project, the environmental impact study, and the documentation for the substantial modification to public information. Interested parties have a period of 30 days to submit objections. The final resolution is expected to be approved by the end of the year, according to departmental sources.
The adjustment is part of the deposit expansion previously approved by the Comissió d'Urbanisme de les Terres de l'Ebre last summer. The new project anticipates that the waste area will be able to store up to 3,909,425 cubic meters, with the creation of four parallel basins on the right bank of the Calapatar ravine.
The expansion approved by Urbanisme will increase the total surface area of the landfill from 22.5 hectares to 37.8 hectares. Initially, the company had planned a much larger expansion, up to 68.9 hectares, but this was halved after considering the objections presented by various municipalities and organizations during the urban planning process.
