Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) have formalized an alliance to enhance research applied to the challenges of mountain and snow resorts.

The main objective of this collaboration agreement is to facilitate the development of joint projects focused on sustainability, climate change, and the management of the mountain resort environment. These initiatives will primarily be channeled through the Centre for Innovation in Mountain and Snow in Catalonia (CIMneu), an initiative promoted by FGC and UPC.
The agreement will enable the promotion of research, development, and innovation to address the current and future challenges of ski resorts, with a special focus on climate change adaptation, natural resource management, and the transformation of facilities.
A framework for cooperation will be established for the exchange of technical, scientific, and technological information, the creation of working groups, and the development of studies. The Centre for Innovation in Mountain and Snow in Camprodon (CIMneu) will be a key hub for these projects.
The Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) will be the participating CSIC center, continuing the previous collaboration with FGC that led to the development of a more sustainable snow production technology.
The Vallter and Vall de Núria resorts, managed by FGC, will become reference spaces for pilot projects and living lab experiments, validating new solutions for the sustainable management of mountain environments.
CIMneu, headquartered in the Can Roig building in Camprodon, will use FGC's resorts in Ripollès as a testing ground for innovation projects in snow, decarbonization, and advanced technologies, with the participation of researchers, students, and emerging companies from UPC.
