Wood extraction tasks in Campelles Forest, which began in mid-July, are progressing adequately. The Campelles City Council expects to have removed approximately 3,200 tons of wood felled by the windstorms, although the initial target of 4,000 tons by the end of August will not be met.
Councilwoman Judit Cornellà explained that the planned deadlines for the completion of the work are expected to be met. However, the forest will remain closed to the public until all tasks are finished.
Currently, two wood lots remain pending, one in Baell and another in the Campelles forest itself, which are the most voluminous and complex for extraction. These sections require special attention due to the volume of wood and the danger posed by truck traffic.
The forest closure will be maintained until at least the end of September. Councilwoman Cornellà indicated that a gradual opening of sections will be considered as work is completed, but a full reopening will not occur before this date.
The primary reason for the closure is to ensure visitor safety due to the heavy truck traffic on steep slopes. This measure will remain in place until the work is finished to prevent potential accidents.
