The rally, which took place at 11:30 AM, marks the beginning of an “anti-repressive campaign” seeking to gather other individuals and entities willing to denounce what the center calls “the repressive nature governing Ripoll”. The leaders of La Metxa, linked to libertarian movements and the pro-independence left, claim they suffer “repression through fines, the attempt to close our premises, or preventing us from carrying out activities both inside and outside”.
No neighborhood, cultural, sports, or popular entity can afford these prices.
This complaint is based on recent situations, such as a poetry recital where the City Council requested 503 euros for the use of public space and an additional 660 euros for necessary materials, totaling 1,163 euros. La Metxa points out that Aliança Catalana intends to nullify the human and community potential of Ripoll society, especially if it is critical of the party led by Sílvia Orriols.
The center's representative, Eduard Marco, explained that the campaign will last for the coming months to denounce situations of discrimination against various groups and “confront a situation that can also be replicated in other municipalities due to the advance of the far-right”. Speeches included a retrospective of conflicts in Ripoll, including the censorship of the Festa Major poster two years ago.
Conflicts with the Ripoll City Council have intensified since Aliança Catalana entered the government. During 2024, the center had to keep the doors of its premises on Pare Colí street closed for almost half a year to comply with municipal requirements, which deemed the space was functioning as a bar. Previously, when Jordi Munell (Junts) was mayor, irregularities had already been noted at the former location in Plaça de la Llibertat.
