The Abat Oliba institute in Ripoll has launched an innovative pilot project to address discrimination and hate speech, focusing on human rights and re-education in values.

This initiative, which will run for two terms, is aimed at students of the Open Classroom in 3rd year of ESO. The main objective is to foster self-acceptance and diversity through group dynamics that promote non-violent communication, social theater, and public speaking skills.

"We were invited to present an innovative proposal and we suggested working with young people in rural areas, and they loved it, and now we are conducting a pilot test on how we face discrimination issues with different tools: non-violent communication, social theater, and also public speaking skills."

The cooperative responsible for the project selected two centers for this pilot test, with the Ripoll institute being one of them. The other participating institution is located in the Garrotxa region. The methodology includes challenges and experiential games to encourage young people to reflect on their actions and explore alternatives.
From the institute, the benefits of this program are valued, especially for students with behavioral or cultural divergences, or those who are neurodivergent. This approach seeks to center these young people, recognizing the importance of their different ways of thinking and functioning.

"The benefits for these kids are to put them at the center and give importance to the fact that they function differently, think differently, whether culturally or with neurodivergences, and to give importance to thinking differently, also due to the global crisis being suffered, but above all it is important that everyone should think differently: we need these kids."
