These appointments come almost three weeks after the preceding councilors had to step down from their positions. The decision was made public through a statement, following Tuesday night's municipal plenary session, where the departure of the former councilors was formalized.
The councilors' resignation was a direct consequence of their involvement in approving the budget proposed by the mayor, from Aliança Catalana. This event triggered a deep crisis within the local PSC, leading to the dissolution of the party's local group in Ripoll and the resignation of all electoral list members in solidarity.
The new PSC representatives are two figures with strong ties to the trade union world, having served as UGT delegates in their respective companies. One of the chosen individuals is a local resident with a long professional career at a company in Sant Joan de les Abadesses. The other, originally from Montevideo (Uruguay), developed his career at a food company in Cornellà del Terri.
The PSC's Girona federation emphasized that both individuals are well-known in the Ripollès region and acknowledged that they are taking on a complex task in the current climate. The new councilors are expected to take office at next month's plenary session.
“"They are taking on a difficult job."
Both the mayor and several opposition parties had already voiced their criticisms regarding the potential incorporation into the City Council of individuals who were not initially part of the socialist electoral list.
