The new headquarters for the Local Police in Ripoll, located in the Tower, will not be able to open its doors until October or November, suffering a considerable delay compared to the initially planned date. According to the mayor of Ripoll, Sílvia Orriols, the main reason for this postponement is the regulation requiring the installation of an armored door.
This armored door requires specific municipal equipment for security. The tendering process has been complex, and although it has already been awarded to a company, the delivery times for the glass and the special dimensions of the door extend to about four months. This means that the police force's move to the new facilities will have to wait until the end of the year.
In addition to the armored door, the adaptation works for the building's outdoor spaces still need to be completed, a second key aspect for the project's finalization.
The three-story building will offer significant improvements. The ground floor will house the citizen service office and the administrative area. The second floor will be dedicated to changing rooms and offices, while the top floor will be used for training and a meeting room. Sergeant Elena Bernal highlighted the inclusion of showers, a convenience that was not available at the previous location.
The new location is considered strategic due to its centrality in the most populated neighborhood of Ripoll, facilitating patrol mobility and improving citizen access. The outdoor space will have parking for five police vehicles and two electric charging points. The project, with a budget of approximately 835,000 euros, benefits from a European subsidy covering almost half the cost. Currently, the police force consists of 15 officers.
