The Rinyoles Rugbi Club, despite falling in the Segona Catalana promotion final against Carboners de Terrassa, will have another opportunity to ascend to Primera Catalana in a decisive match against Torroella.
The Ripoll Municipal Field hosted a thrilling Segona Catalana promotion final, where Rinyoles Rugbi Club faced Carboners de Terrassa. The match, which saw a large attendance, maintained tension until the final minutes, with a close score that ultimately favored the Terrassa team 34-38.
The Ripollès-Banyoles team started strong, scoring an early try and conversion that gave them a 7-0 lead. Despite maintaining the lead until halftime (12-6), the second half was marked by parity and physical exhaustion. Carboners managed to turn the score around in the final moments, securing the Segona Catalana championship.
“
"The feeling is good, but we play rugby, and it's a sport where anything can happen. We played well on the field, and all that's left is to congratulate Terrassa."
Despite the defeat, Rinyoles RC has not given up. As a promotion finalist, they will play a single-match 'play-out' against Senglars de Torroella, the second-to-last placed team in the Primera Catalana regular league. This encounter represents a second chance to achieve the coveted promotion.
“
"They are a team with a very solid base, considering it's a rural rugby club, like us. They have been working well for years, but lately they have suffered the effects of player fees and other complications. We won't find the same team as last time. They play with fifteen, sixteen players. We know it's not their best moment, and we will take advantage to fight until the end for this spot."
The decisive match between Rinyoles RC and RC Torroella will take place on Saturday, May 9. The Catalan Rugby Federation will be responsible for determining the time and neutral venue for this duel, which will decide which of the two teams will play in Primera Catalana next season.
