The work has already begun with the interior dismantling of the hall, addressing safety issues on the roof and renewing the electrical installation. The project foresees the creation of three large multipurpose rooms for cultural activities and events.
According to the mayor of Ripoll, Sílvia Orriols, the interior building will be "totally remodeled and different from what we had until now", moving from a highly compartmentalized space to "three large, open, and versatile areas" with "broad polyvalence".
Entities that had been rehoused will not return to the facility, as the small compartments will disappear. Provisional locations, such as the Fortí de l’Estrella, are expected to become permanent.
The renovation also includes the refurbishment of the Plaça de l’Escorxador, which will feature a new bar overlooking the Ter river. The space will be pedestrianized, and the current fifteen parking spaces will be removed to create new uses, aiming to extend the facility's activity outdoors during warmer months.
The total cost of the works amounts to approximately 700,000 euros, funded by half a million from the Pla Únic d’Obres i Serveis and the remaining 200,000 from own funds obtained through a loan. With an estimated duration of eleven months, the new space is expected to be ready by the end of June next year.
