The town of Ripoll is hosting the 47th edition of its Music Festival from this Friday, July 5th, running until August 15th. The event emphasizes proximity and solidifies jazz as a prominent genre. According to Anna Castany, president of Amics de la Música, jazz has become an essential style for the festival, aligning with audience preferences.
The festival also fosters collaboration with local and Catalan entities, such as the Agrupació Sardanista and the Montserrat Caballé Foundation. The program opening will be presented by the Coral Capella Santa Maria, performing "La Mort d’Orphée" this Sunday at six in the evening at the Monastery. The choir's director, Pere Mas, highlights the uniqueness of this piece, which includes a rarely performed lyrical scene by Delibes.
The performance will feature four choirs, seventy voices, and a dozen musicians, with tenor Joan Mas portraying Orpheus. Concurrently, the 37th edition of the music interpretation course is taking place, with thirty students, exceeding previous years' attendance, according to the association's treasurer, Joan Colomer. A new addition is a three-day organ course, with 14 registered participants, taking advantage of the monastery's recently renovated organ and the involvement of Eudald Dantí.
The course, held from July 4th to 12th, is viewed by the mayor of Ripoll, Sílvia Orriols, as a boost for the town's tourism, attracting students from across Catalunya. Most festival concerts are ticketed, with the exception of performances by the course students and young talents on July 11th and 12th.
