This initiative, promoted by the Catalan government, will enable participating municipalities in the region to carry out necessary actions to update and enhance school facilities. Improvements are also planned for management systems, lighting replacement, accessibility measures, and the removal of asbestos. The investment is not limited to major renovations but also covers specific maintenance and adaptation needs that directly impact learning environments. The fund can also cover associated expenses like project drafting or construction management.
These funds for Ripollès are part of a total allocation of €100 million that the Generalitat will deploy between 2026 and 2028 for public early childhood, primary, and special education centers across Catalonia. The program will benefit 723 municipalities, excluding Barcelona, which has its own management system. Local councils will be responsible for defining specific actions based on center needs and the guidelines from the Department of Education.
The creation of this fund addresses the need to tackle the progressive aging of educational infrastructure and to boost investment in improvements. The model promotes collaboration with local councils to decentralize management and expedite execution timelines.
The distribution of the €100 million is based on criteria such as service scope (based on student numbers), building construction or renovation dates (pre-2007), and rurality. This extraordinary contribution is in addition to the €34 million from the ordinary budget, bringing the total investment in renovations to €134 million.
