Severe Windstorm Hits the Pyrenees with Gusts up to 170 km/h

A powerful northern windstorm battered the Pyrenees and Girona regions this Sunday, recording maximum gusts of 170 km/h and forcing the closure of ski resorts.

According to the Catalan Meteorological Service, wind speeds reached 167.4 km/h in Portbou and 161.6 km/h at Santuari de Queralt. In Vall de Boí, gusts hit 157 km/h, leading to the temporary closure of the Port Ainé resort in Pallars Sobirà for safety reasons.
In the Girona area, six roads were closed, including the N-260 in Ribes de Freser. Firefighters responded to over 750 calls, mostly regarding fallen trees. In La Seu d'Urgell, winds of 83.9 km/h damaged roofs on Pau Claris Avenue and at La Salle school.
