A man was seriously injured on March 13 after being caught in a slab avalanche while ski mountaineering at Pic de la Dona, in the municipality of Setcases.

The incident occurred in the late afternoon in a popular area for mountain skiing in the Eastern Pyrenees. The victim was part of a group of three; the other two members were uninjured and were not buried by the snow.
Emergency services, including Bombers de la Generalitat mountain rescue teams (GRAE) and a SEM medical helicopter, were deployed to the scene. Although the skier was not fully buried, he sustained severe injuries during the slide.
The injured man was airlifted to the Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona. Authorities confirmed the rescue operation began following an emergency call at 2:49 PM.
