The decision by the PSC municipal group in Ripoll, made on Friday, April 10, has been described as an "absolute disagreement" by the PSC Federation of the Girona Regions. This federation issued a statement emphasizing that the decision did not have their prior approval or knowledge, and has summoned the involved councilors to demand explanations and take appropriate action.
The Girona federation's statement highlights the incompatibility of the PSC's project, based on the defense of democracy, social rights, and coexistence, with the political stances of Aliança Catalana and its leader, Sílvia Orriols. These stances are described as founded on exclusion, the regression of rights, and the normalization of hate speech, positions that the Girona socialists consider diametrically opposed to their political line.
This decision does not have the endorsement or prior knowledge of this federation.
The abstention of the two socialist councilors was crucial for the budget's approval, as the vote resulted in a 7-7 tie, which was broken by the casting vote of Mayor Sílvia Orriols. According to PSC spokesperson in Ripoll, Enric Pérez, the municipal group's decision aimed to avoid a new vote of no confidence and "wasting time".
For her part, Mayor Sílvia Orriols has responded to the socialist federation's statement, suggesting that they should thank the Ripoll councilors for their "institutional and political responsibility" in having avoided a new vote of no confidence through their abstention.
“"You should thank the two socialist councilors of Ripoll, who, in an act of institutional and political responsibility, avoided (with their abstention) a new vote of no confidence."
