40-year-old Lleida resident dies after being hit by AVE train

The fatal accident occurred Wednesday night near La Bordeta, causing the Madrid-Figueres high-speed rail line to be halted for two hours.

A 40-year-old resident of Lleida died Wednesday night after being struck by an AVE high-speed train in the Pla de Lleida area, on the outskirts of La Bordeta, having been reported missing earlier that day.

The incident occurred around 10:30 PM on Wednesday. Patrols from the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Guàrdia Urbana, along with ambulances from the Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), attended the scene and certified the woman's death.

"Due to the accident involving a person at an unauthorized crossing point between the Lleida-Pirineus station and Bifurcació Artesa, high-speed trains on the Madrid-Barcelona line experienced delays."

The train, which originated in Madrid and was heading to Figueres-Vilafant, was halted. As a result of the incident, Protecció Civil activated the pre-alert for the Ferrocat Plan. The Mossos d’Esquadra took charge of the investigation, and the body was recovered around midnight and transferred to the Lleida Institute of Legal Medicine.
The 40-year-old victim had been sought since early Wednesday afternoon after her family reported her absence. Rail circulation was restored around 12:20 AM on Thursday morning.
