The International Animation Film Festival of Catalonia, known as Animac, has launched its 30th edition at the Llotja de Lleida, featuring a program of 230 films and honoring its founders.

Under the theme Things Change, the festival reflects on the inherent nature of change within the animation world. The opening gala in Lleida paid tribute to the original creators of the event, which started in 1997, and featured a special performance by the artistic collective Hamill Industries.

"Animac was born very small, like a baby, but it has always had and preserved a soul that has made it special."

Renowned Irish director Nora Twomey received the Honorary Award, while German master Andreas Hykade was presented with the Animation Master prize. The festival, directed by Carolina López, continues until Sunday with a wide range of screenings including the Oscar-nominated short Éiru.
