An intoxicated driver was criminally charged after causing his vehicle to catch fire, which spread to two other parked cars on Cronista Montaner street in Lleida yesterday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:48 AM at number 6 on Cronista Montaner street, in the Cappont neighborhood of Lleida. The fire started in a moving vehicle and quickly spread to two other cars parked on the street.
According to the Guàrdia Urbana (Local Police), the vehicle caught fire due to heavy acceleration during a parking maneuver that involved the other two cars. The driver was charged with a crime against traffic safety for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The intense smoke alerted residents and required the street to be closed for one hour and twenty minutes to facilitate extinction tasks.

Two Fire Department units and several Guàrdia Urbana patrols were dispatched to the scene. Subsequently, City Council cleaning services and a platform crane removed the burnt vehicles to restore traffic circulation in the area.
