The protests, called by Unió de Pagesos, Asaja, Revolta Pagesa, the Pagesos o Conills platform, and the Federació de Cooperatives Agràries de Catalunya (FCAC), will begin this Friday, July 24, and continue on Sunday, July 26. The blockades will take place on the C-14, at the roundabout accessing the A-2 in Tàrrega, between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM.
The following week, the mobilization will move to the C-12 in Maials, during the same hours. The calls will alternate weekly between these two strategic points on Lleida's road network.
The territorial coordinator for Plana de Lleida of Unió de Pagesos, Nèstor Serra, stated that farmers will not cease their protests until the Government presents effective solutions. Serra highlighted the lack of meetings with the Department of Territory, which is responsible for management, despite promises from the Department of Agriculture regarding improvements to ZEPA zones.
The organizers reiterate their demand for measures against the overpopulation of game fauna, particularly rabbits, and criticize agricultural authorities for claiming a decrease in density when farmers are observing an increase in damage to their crops.
The entities aim to be heard by the Government regarding their needs in managing the rabbit population. Serra questioned the statements made by counselor Òscar Ordeig in Parliament about the decline in rabbit density, suggesting that authorities may not be perceiving the reality on the ground.
