A young Belarusian, who arrived in la Granja d'Escarp in 1997, has shared his story of integration and gratitude towards his host family and the local community.

The young man, who arrived at the age of twelve and returned in 2005, initially intending to stay for a year to save money, ended up settling permanently in the area. He managed to buy a house and pay off the mortgage, consolidating his life in Catalonia.

"Thanks to this family, I am here. Everyone considers me the son of Consuelo and José. They took better care of me than my own mother."

During his first year and a half of stay, as well as in previous brief periods, he lived with the host family. Currently, he resides in Logroño with his wife, also of Belarusian origin, and their two children, born in Lleida and raised in la Granja d'Escarp.
He recalls that the main initial difficulty was the language, although this did not prevent communication with other children for play. His second period in the town extended for fifteen years, during which he worked in various occupations, such as a mechanic, in a gravel pit, and in a machinery factory. He maintains constant contact with his host family.
