The Pyrenees and the Terres de Lleida are preparing for an exceptional astronomical event: a total solar eclipse on August 12th, primarily visible in the south of the province of Lleida.

Anticipation is growing in the Segrià and Garrigues regions, particularly in the Baix Segre area, where the eclipse will be visible at 100% for approximately twenty-five seconds, just before sunset. This astronomical phenomenon, an alignment of the Sun, Moon, and Earth, is considered one of nature's most spectacular events.
According to Salvador Ribas, director of the Montsec Astronomical Park (PAM), this is a unique event, as a total solar eclipse has not been seen in Catalonia since 1905, and another will not occur until the 22nd century. Ribas emphasizes that it is an opportunity that the current generation will not be able to witness again without traveling.
Although Montsec will not be an optimal viewing point, the PAM has disseminated information about the phenomenon and the best places to see it in southern Ponent. Several municipalities in the province of Lleida are preparing venues and infrastructure to host visitors. In the city of Lleida, two locations will be set up: the Turó de la Seu Vella, with a capacity for 1,500 people, and the area around the Magraners football field, for about 12,000.
Municipalities in Baix Segre and Garrigues are also organizing themselves as reference observation points, reminding attendees of the importance of using approved special glasses for eye protection.
The Generalitat has created the portal eclipsicatalunya.cat, which offers updated information on activities and observation points for this exceptional event.
