The city of Lleida celebrated its traditional Bed Race this Sunday, an event that brought together fifteen handmade vehicles racing through the Old Quarter and the Commercial Axis.

The event, a staple of the Carnival program in the Segrià capital, took place the day after the massive parade. Participants showcased their homemade engineering with vehicles speeding down the streets of the historic center.
Satire and current affairs were the main themes for this year's decorations. Some teams chose to humorously criticize new traffic regulations, such as the V16 beacons, or the Renfe railway service. Other topics included the swine flu and the Louvre robbery.
Beyond social criticism, creativity was also inspired by historical references. Among the most visual entries were beds transformed with Egyptian and Mexican cultural motifs, adding color to the Sunday competition.
