Lleida CF has lodged an appeal against the decision by the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office to grant the registration of the UE Lleida shield to Atlètic Lleida, citing a risk of confusion.

The Patent Office's resolution, approved on April 17 and recently published in the BOPI, dismissed Lleida CF's previous allegations as being out of time and lacking legitimacy. Now, the Fleming club has filed an administrative appeal, which can be submitted within one month of the publication date.
Lleida CF argues that the concession of the UE Lleida shield should be denied because it coincides with the figurative sign's identity and creates a risk of confusion with trademarks the club has held since 2023. To support its argument, the appeal cites a Supreme Court ruling from 2023 that denied the registration of the Madrid CFF brand due to the confusion it generated with Real Madrid's. Furthermore, Lleida CF accuses Atlètic Lleida of having acted in "bad faith" during this process.

"It seems to me a lack of respect that an emblem such as the shield and the name of UE Lleida could end up in the hands of people not linked to the club. I understand the fans' anger."

In line with this stance, several Lleida fan clubs, including Rudes Lleida, És un Sentiment, Molo Esportiu, Amics del Lleida, and Blues Nord, issued a joint statement. In this document, they expressed their "rejection of the attempt to appropriate the identity, history, and symbolism" of the club. They also reiterated their decision not to support Atlètic Lleida, "whatever its name may be in the future".
