The Lleida City Council has been forced to pay 54,566.42 euros following a court ruling regarding the 2018 expansion of the city's animal shelter, known as El Refugi dels Peluts.

The administrative court of Lleida ruled in favor of the company Construccions Lluís Puigdevall. The judge ordered the municipality to return the security deposit and pay for additional works that were carried out but previously rejected by the council.
The total amount consists of 41,929.25 euros for project modifications, 4,878.76 euros for the returned guarantee, and 7,658.41 euros in late payment interest. The local government approved the payment on February 3 to comply with the final sentence.
The renovation at the Caparrella facility aimed to improve animal welfare by expanding dog cages with sunnier outdoor areas and creating a new section for cats. The original contract was signed in February 2018 for approximately 120,000 euros.
