The municipal government of Lleida has presented a new civility and coexistence ordinance proposal that includes banning the use of the full-face veil in public spaces and municipal offices, a measure previously annulled by the Supreme Court.

This initiative, driven by the local executive, aims to regulate the use of clothing that completely covers the face in various areas of the city. The proposal follows previous attempts to ban the burqa, which were overturned by the judiciary.

"There is a specific plan so that no one becomes a greater victim as a result of this ordinance."

The minority government plans to submit the new ordinance for approval during the municipal plenary session in June. The proposal has generated diverse reactions among opposition groups, with some parties supporting it and others expressing criticism.
While Junts and the Popular Party have expressed their support for the measure, Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya and the Comú de Lleida have voiced their disagreement with the proposed ban.
