The Territorial Representation of Lleida of the Catalan Basketball Federation (FCBQ) has launched a campaign to recruit new female referees, aiming to diversify and strengthen the female refereeing collective in the region.

This initiative is part of the 'ÀrbitrA amb A' project, promoted by the FCBQ throughout Catalonia under the slogan “Dona’t a l’arbitratge–Fes-te ÀrbitrA” (Give yourself to refereeing–Become a Female Referee). The campaign seeks to give new impetus to the recruitment efforts that have been ongoing for years at the Lleida delegation.

"Recruitment has always been a priority for us, but this project allows us to further highlight that a girl can be a referee and reach important categories within basketball."

Currently, the female refereeing collective in Lleida consists of ten referees. Three of them already officiate matches in higher categories, while the remaining seven are part of the school and primarily referee grassroots games. The main challenge is not only to attract new recruits but also to ensure their retention in refereeing.

"Many start with enthusiasm, but our goal is to retain them so they continue and do not abandon, as has happened on other occasions."

The campaign has already been presented to Lleida clubs, and informative talks will soon be organized to encourage new vocations. Lleida refereeing currently has 76 referees, 57 table officials, and five refereeing technicians to cover 152 weekly matches. Although the competition can be managed normally, the need for new personnel is constant, especially due to the geographical extension of the territory and the growing demand for table officials.
