Electric scooter users in Lleida are now required to register their vehicles with the DGT, obtain an official license plate, and secure insurance to comply with new safety laws.

Adapting to the new Personal Mobility Vehicle (VMP) regulations costs an average of 100 euros. This includes administrative fees, the physical plate, and annual liability insurance. In Lleida, where bike lanes are widely used, the measure aims to professionalize the use of these popular transport devices.
Local user Samuel Fernández reported a total expenditure of 112 euros to fully legalize his scooter. While he finds the vehicle practical for daily commuting, he acknowledges that many riders still ignore basic rules, such as the 25 km/h speed limit or the prohibition of carrying passengers.

"I agree with the mandatory insurance because of the dangerous situations we see, but many people won't get it until the police carry out more exhaustive checks."

Authorities hope the new identification system will help reduce traffic violations and assist in recovering stolen property, addressing growing concerns about urban mobility safety.
