Several municipalities in Segrià, including Almenar, Corbins, Albatàrrec, and the city of Lleida, have suffered the effects of a storm front accompanied by hail that has affected fruit crops. This Monday saw the most significant hailstorm of the season, both in terms of hail size and affected area.
Starting from two in the afternoon, Almenar experienced hailstones with diameters exceeding 2 centimeters. According to the Asaja union, pear and apple crops, as well as later varieties of stone fruit, could be the most affected.
The largest hailstones were observed in Almenar. Although it is still too early for a definitive damage assessment, it is not ruled out that crops such as pears, figs, and peaches may have suffered damage. Asaja has indicated that approximately 70% of the pear production and over 85% of stone fruit have already been harvested.
Once the episode concludes, on-site assessments will be carried out. The union is confident that agricultural insurance will initiate damage assessments as soon as possible to determine the extent of the losses.
