The Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) line connecting Lleida and La Pobla de Segur has set a new historic record, exceeding half a million journeys in the past twelve months.

Between May 2025 and April 2026, accumulated demand reached 501,732 journeys, representing an 8.14% increase compared to the previous period (May 2024 - April 2025). This upward trend remains strong, solidifying the line as a key mobility axis in the region.
Data from the first four months of the year also confirm this growth. From January 1 to April 30 of this year, 161,887 journeys were recorded, compared to 144,788 during the same period last year. This figure represents an 11.81% increase in demand.
These statistics were presented by Ferrocarrils during the Lleida-La Pobla de Segur Line Monitoring Commission, held this morning in Balaguer. The commission includes representatives from local councils, the Comarcal Council, and various economic and social agents from the territory.

"The unstoppable upward trend we are experiencing on the Lleida-La Pobla de Segur line is the result of the investment and service improvements we implement year after year at Ferrocarrils."

the FGC president
Recent improvements, implemented since January of this year, have included the addition of new services to absorb growing demand on the section between Lleida and Balaguer, as well as timetable adjustments to optimize FGC train connections with the high-speed rail linking Lleida to Barcelona.

"The trust shown by users is a sign that we are doing things well, that we listen to the needs of the territory and that we work to implement them for the benefit of their daily mobility needs. The Lleida-La Pobla line is a success story and a testament to our proximity to the territory, which we hope to replicate in the future Lleida-Terrassa line service."

The Lleida-La Pobla de Segur line had already set records in previous years. Last year, with nearly 487,000 journeys, it multiplied the 2015 demand (74,603 journeys) by 6.5, the year before Ferrocarrils took over the service, thus marking the fourth consecutive year of record demand. Since 2016, Ferrocarrils has invested over 90 million euros in this line, allocated to infrastructure, signaling, communications, and rolling stock.
