During the fruit harvest months in Baix Segre, the Mossos d'Esquadra intensify their presence with a special operation. This police plan includes two fixed patrols per shift in agricultural municipalities from May to the end of September, aiming to manage the summer population increase and prevent property crimes.
The operation involves increased patrols in the area, support for agricultural entrepreneurs for on-site reporting, and improved coordination between security forces and local councils. Additionally, temporary offices have been set up in towns like Aitona to facilitate management.
According to inspector Xavier Ribelles, head of the Basic Police Area of Segrià, the trend in property crimes has remained "stable" since 2021. Ribelles noted that offenders often act out of necessity or to resell stolen goods, and urged the public to call 112 if they witness suspicious behavior.
Ribelles also highlighted a reduction in street incidents, such as fights, which he attributes to the provision of more accommodation spaces for temporary workers, leading to less time spent on the streets during leisure hours.
