Around fifty workers from the Balàfia I and II nursing homes in Lleida gathered this Wednesday to demand improved labor conditions and significant salary increases from the public management company.

The staff, consisting of 130 employees, claims that Gestió de Serveis Sanitaris (GSS) arbitrarily applies either public or private management rules depending on what benefits the company. Unions UGT and CCOO argue this creates an unfair situation for the professionals.

"If they are public employees, public sector labor conditions must also be applied: shorter shifts, adequate ratios, and comparable rights."

Union representatives are calling for the application of the national nursing home agreement, which includes a cumulative 9% pay rise for 2024 and 2025. Currently, GSS has capped increases at 2.5%, which workers describe as a 'scam' given their actual working conditions.
The protesters have asked the Catalan Government's health and social departments to clarify the legal framework for these centers in Lleida, warning of further mobilizations if no solution is reached.
