Jordi López's team saw their chances of staying in the division drastically reduced after failing to secure points in a crucial match. The situation was further complicated by the expulsion of a Lleida player at the end of the first half, forcing the team to play the entire second half with ten men.
Despite a promising start where the Lleida players showed confidence, Alcoyano sealed the match within a ten-minute spell. After a double visiting chance saved by Marc Arnau, Tiko Iniesta opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, and two minutes later, Llinares extended the lead to 0-2. The expulsion of Alya Camara in the 45th minute for a second yellow card left Atlètic Lleida in a very delicate position.
In the second half, Alcoyano opted to manage the result, while Atlètic Lleida, despite being a man down, tried to react. Moró Sidibé pulled one back in the 70th minute with a good low shot, giving hope to the home side. The last 20 minutes were frantic, with chances for both teams, including a one-on-one for Soule saved by goalkeeper Unai and a clear opportunity for Loren to seal the win for the visitors.
The return of Juan Agüero, after almost six months out, and Roger Alcalà, who was back after five, was not enough to change the course of the match. With only twelve points left to play for, Atlètic Lleida needs to close an eight-point gap to Valencia Mestalla for the 'play-out' and nine points to Ibiza for safety, a task that seems almost impossible.
