The most serious incident occurred in Segarra, where the A-2 was blocked between 8:30 and 11:00 AM, trapping numerous vehicles and even snowplows between Tàrrega and Cervera. The Mossos d’Esquadra had to divert traffic onto the side lane to allow cleaning machinery to pass, while many drivers sought refuge in service areas.
“"I did not expect the snowfall to be so heavy."
The storm left snow and ice on a dozen roads, requiring the mandatory use of chains or winter tires on routes such as the C-149, C-230a, and L-234. In addition to the crash on the A-2, the Bombers de la Generalitat responded to vehicle rollovers on the L-311 in Tarroja de Segarra and the C-14 in Tàrrega.
City councils in Lleida, Mollerussa, and Fraga intensified the use of salt to prevent ice sheets, especially on the main access roads of the Segrià capital. Meanwhile, Asaja Catalunya, through its president Pere Roqué, expressed “concern” about potential damage to crops like olive trees due to the expected widespread frosts.
