Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) is participating for the first time at the Fira de Sant Miquel in Lleida to present its mobility and tourism offerings in the region.

During the fair, FGC has an information stand about the railway services it manages in Lleida, such as the Lleida-La Pobla line and the future Lleida-Terrassa line. The company's tourism assets in the province are also being showcased, including the mountain resorts of Espot, Port Ainé, and Boí Taüll, the Montsec Astronomical Park, and the Tren dels Llacs.
The president of FGC, Carles Ruiz Novella, participated in the inauguration and presented the Lleida Commuter Rail project, highlighting the challenges and opportunities of the future railway operation. The company anticipates that the management of the Lleida-Terrassa line, along with the Lleida-La Pobla line, will mobilize over one million annual travelers.
Ruiz emphasized that the new Lleida-Terrassa line (RL3 and RL4) will bring increased frequencies, new and more comfortable trains, improved punctuality, and real-time information, positioning FGC as a community-focused public operator and an alternative to private vehicles. Construction of the new trains is underway, with the first expected in September 2025, and the workshop facilities at Pla de Vilanoveta are being adapted to become the Lleida Commuter Rail Operations Center.
In the tourism sector, FGC is a major operator in the Lleida region, attracting nearly 400,000 annual visitors to its mountain resorts and activities, representing almost a third of tourism in the province. This activity contributes approximately 11% to the Gross Value Added (GVA) of the regions where it operates.
The company also plans to expand its tourism division by taking over the management of the Tavascan mountain resort and developing a strategic plan for the next 15 years, aiming to solidify FGC as a driver of sustainable territorial development and de-seasonalized tourism.
