The Lleida City Council has approved the containment and flood prevention project for the Segre River in Cappont, with a budget of 5.1 million euros, which will allow progress on key facilities for the neighborhood.

The Lleida City Council has approved, with 25 votes in favor and 2 abstentions, the containment and flood prevention project for the Segre River. The initiative, budgeted at €5,141,527.51, plans to lower the river's channeling level between 100 meters upstream of the Els Camps Elisis footbridge and 100 meters downstream of the Pont Vell to improve drainage capacity during flood events.
This action is key to developing planned facilities on the left bank of the river, such as the new Cappont institute, the expansion of the Camps Elisis school and the neighborhood's CAP (primary care center), as well as the Lleida Beaches project. The mayor of Lleida, Fèlix Larrosa, highlighted that "after so many years, we see the light at the end of the tunnel" and noted that it will be submitted for a funding call from the Generalitat.
The plenary also gave the green light, with 11 votes in favor, 15 abstentions, and one against, to the progress of the partial plan for sector SUR 27, an industrial area of 18.5 hectares between the LL-11 road and the fourth irrigation ditch of Fontanet. The objective is to reduce the odor emissions from the existing meat processing plant. Deputy Mayor Begoña Iglesias argued that it is "the only solution" to minimize odors, while Junts and Comú de Lleida proposed relocating the activity, opting for abstention and requesting technical reports, respectively.
Likewise, the executive project for the new municipal waste collection point has been approved, which will be located in the Els Frares Industrial Park, at the intersection with the N-240a and the street of Vilanova de la Barca. Covering over 10,000 m², it will include an environmental classroom and a second-hand and exchange shop. The budget is €2,654,072.56, with a subsidy of €944,535.36 from the Catalan Waste Agency.
Unanimous support was also given to the Master Plan for the walls, church, and castle of Gardeny, a heritage complex declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BCIN).
Regarding institutional declarations, the plenary session agreed to support the implementation of the degree in Data Science and Engineering at the University of Lleida (UdL), urging the Generalitat to fund it and promote collaboration with the business sector. Mayor Larrosa emphasized that this degree is "key" to attracting data centers to the city.
A motion supporting CUME families (carers of children with cancer or serious illness) was also approved, urging the State Government to improve benefits and permits.
Finally, a motion was debated and approved to defend the public management of the Balàfia 1 and 2 elderly residences, requesting the Generalitat to assume their management directly.
