A group of 150 Catalan farmers, including fifty from Lleida with six tractors, began a march to Madrid this February to protest against international trade agreements and the CAP.

The protest focuses on the rejection of the free trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur, as well as criticism of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) management. Producers claim the new model leaves funding management in state hands.

"It is very easy to talk about generational renewal, but if these farmers are not strong, this is not possible"

Raquel Serrat · National Coordinator of Unió de Pagesos
The Unió de Pagesos union stated that the treaty with South American countries is the straw that broke the camel's back for small and medium-sized farms. They demand policies that strengthen the sector to ensure its future.
The farmers are expected to arrive in Madrid today, where they will march to the Ministry of Agriculture. This action is part of a series of mobilizations to bring the primary sector's concerns to the Spanish Government.
