The Lleida City Council has set May 25 as the deadline for the completion and furnishing of the Modular Center for Seasonal Workers (CAT) in the Caparrella area, with preliminary groundwork already underway.

This deadline is established according to the contract for the supply of 32 beds and other furniture, which was put out to tender last Monday. The contract stipulates a five-month period for the entirety of the works, including construction and furnishing.
Preliminary groundwork began on Wednesday, and the site inspection for the project layout is scheduled for this week, according to a municipal spokesperson. Concurrently, the manufacturing of the prefabricated modules will advance in the workshop, a crucial process for meeting the established timeline.
The CAT in Caparrella will be the first of at least three centers that the Paeria (City Council) plans to build in the future across different areas of the Horta (agricultural plain). These modules are designed to house 32 fruit workers and will include shared dormitories, wardrobes, services and showers, a kitchen, a living room, and a shaded communal area.
If the new deadlines are met, the facility will be delivered one year behind the initial schedule. The municipal government had announced in January 2025 that the center would be ready for last year's campaign, but the construction contract was not formally awarded until last September.
